Traffic jams!!

Who likes to be stuck in traffic?! I don’t think anyone does. I’ve realized that one thing that I don’t like about LA is the TRAFFIC! Turning on the radio and listening to the traffic reports in my car has become one of my daily routine; and it helps me to think of the quickest way to get to where I want to go. Sometimes, it really drives me nuts because I get tired and sleepy from being stuck in the traffic (now…that’s really dangerous). And that makes me always wondered why and what causes traffic jams. I had tried to analyze it when I was stuck in the traffic, and I thought maybe there is a car accident, or oil leak on the road. Sometimes it can be either one of these cases, but sometimes neither of these cases apply to it. So I looked it up on online (and that’s when Google comes in really handy!!), I typed in “what causes traffic jam”. Interestingly, I didn’t realize science is applied to what causes traffic jam until I read the article online. Nonetheless, I don’t quite buy this page on Wikipedia, because I am not a mathematician nor economist?! Perhaps… On the other hand, I find two articles are quite convincing, the Science of Traffic Jam, and Chaos and your everyday Traffic Jam. Since I’ve been driving back and forth between home and UCLA for classes, I noticed people stepping or slamming on the brakes on the freeway quite often that slows down the traffic is true. I’m sure the articles explain why.
